City of Ceres, California battles red tape in an effort to remove uranium from two city wells
Excessive amounts of uranium in two city wells have the city of Ceres, California, wading through uncharted bureaucratic waters.
According to an April 26 article in The Ceres Courier, Ceres is the first city in the state required to obtain a permit for wellhead treatment for uranium.
Before issuing the uranium permit, the state must issue a city permit. That permit won't be issed until the project meets regulations under California's Environmental Quality Act.
Uranium appears naturally in underground water tables. For more on uranium, see the WQA Technical Application Bulletin on the topic.
