General Information
A WINNING RECORD
The Water Quality Association’s independent laboratory has been providing the industry with quality assurance since 1959. WQA’s GOLD SEAL represents the oldest independent third-party testing and validation program in the water treatment industry. The association is committed to providing consumers and the industry with quality assurance and competitive testing options through continuous research and evaluation of water treatment technologies. Numerous products from manufacturers have earned the coveted GOLD SEAL. Manufacturers, retailers, and dealers market GOLD SEAL validated equipment to differentiate themselves and their products in a competitive industry. Many WQA members say the GOLD SEAL is the most attractive and user-friendly insignia available, designating quality and integrity of their products and giving them a competitive edge in the marketplace.
The WQA GOLD SEAL makes a statement to consumers and the competition and enhances reputation for quality within the market.
THE WQA GOLD SEAL IS A MARK OF PRODUCT QUALITY
The Water Quality Association developed its GOLD SEAL program to help manufacturers validate claims and allow consumers to choose quality water treatment products. WQA tests water treatment equipment and awards the GOLD SEAL only to those systems that meet or exceed industry standards for performance, capacity and integrity in removing a variety of water supply contaminants. The GOLD SEAL is available for products tested to the WQA equipment validation standards, to the ANSI/NSF drinking water treatment unit standards, and to the ANSI/NSF drinking water treatment chemicals and components standards.
A COST-EFFECTIVE WAY TO BUILD A COMPETITIVE EDGE
The Water Quality Association’s independent laboratory is one to the most cost-effective of its type in the industry today. As a not-for-profit organization, validation at the association’s laboratory gives an added bonus: the prestigious GOLD SEAL for equipment plus favorable economics.
EXPANDED TO INCLUDE TESTING FOR HEALTH CLAIMS
Manufacturers can earn the GOLD SEAL for ANSI/NSF, as well as WQA standards. The GOLD SEAL is now available for products claiming health contaminant reduction. The GOLD SEAL program also accepts manufacturers’ test results form other WQA-Recognized laboratories, including Spectrum Labs, Inc., NSF International, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), InterBasic Resources, Inc. (IBR), National Testing Laboratories, Ltd., and Bio-Vir laboratories. These laboratories and others adhere to WQA’s quality assurance standards. Test results must be presented to WQA for review before the GOLD SEAL is awarded.
A SUCCESSFUL TOOL FOR MEETING STATE OR OTHER REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
If products need to be certified in California, Iowa, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, or by other regulatory agencies, the Water Quality Association laboratory and staff is an excellent place begin.
AWARDED TO A BROAD RANGE OF PRODUCTS MEETING INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS
Water Quality Association GOLD SEAL testing and validation is available for water softener, reverse osmosis systems, distillation systems, filters (whole house, under counter, counter top and pour through) and ultraviolet drinking water systems. All standards utilize these basic tests.
Performance testing – measures contaminant reduction capabilities over the life or capacity of the unit.
Structural integrity – measures durability under pressurization beyond the usual demands of home water systems.
Material safety – confirms a product does not add harmful contaminants to the water being treated.
Literature review – verifies clarity and accuracy of product literature, sales and advertising, installation and maintenance instruction, performance data sheets, and product labeling. GOLD SEAL labeled products must meet the Water Quality Association’s Code of Ethics standards.
