Safety concerns lead WQA to cancel Mid-Year Leadership Conference
Hurricane Florence expected to hit South Carolina coast this week
LISLE, Ill. (Sept. 9, 2018) –In the best interest of everyone’s safety, the Water Quality Association has canceled the 2018 WQA Mid-Year Leadership Conference (MYLC) planned for this week in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Meteorologists have predicted that Hurricane Florence will strike the East Coast as early as Thursday.
“This was a very difficult decision, and it’s hard for everyone involved,” said WQA Executive Director Pauli Undesser. “In the end, however, personal safety of our members was paramount.”
Nearly 150 WQA members and staff were expected in Hilton Head this week for one of the best attended MYLCs in several years.
WQA has been keeping registered MYLC attendees informed through email and through the conference website, go.wqa.org/mylc. Attendees were asked to set aside time on their schedules this Thursday and Friday (Sept. 13 and 14) as WQA evaluates the opportunity for boards, advisory councils, committees, sections and task forces to hold virtual meetings in lieu of conference opportunities.
“We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding,” Undesser said.
WQA is a not-for-profit trade association representing the residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment industry. Since 1959, the WQA Gold Seal certification program has been certifying products that contribute to the safe consumption of water. The WQA Gold Seal program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
